Tenn. is 2nd-most medicated state, despite reforms
Forbes, which released the rankings, showed that people in the state now take on average 16.9 prescriptions a year, compared with a previous high of about 18. The national average is 11.6 prescriptions a person. West Virginia took the No. 1 spot for most medicated state in the nation.

To get their medications, Tennesseans spent about $6.1 billion at retail pharmacies in 2009, according to the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation.
